p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Morning at Las Torres

This was from an early morning hike to the Mirador Las Torres in Torres Del Paine.
We had started our backpacking trip the afternoon before, and got into camp well after dark. Quick dinner, tent up, and then to sleep. We woke up a little too late in the morning so we really had to book it to make it up in time for sunrise. We got lucky on wonderful light, and then it got cloudy and windy and cold again.

Thanks for looking, and comments and suggestions are welcomed

The second one is really nice.

I haven't often seen pics that include water in the foreground. Well done.

Thanks Mjollnir and jph!
Including the water in the image was a nice challenge, because there's a lot of big rocks either side that would distract away from the Torres if they were included.

#4 is my favorite. If you ever get a chance, next time you are in Chile I recommend you visit the Atacama Desert--superb place for photography.

Sweet light. Going up all those boulders in a hurry isn't easy.

Hey John!
Great light you got there! is it me or it looks like there is lack of detail in the lit peaks?
I am not sure is it contrast issue or focus issue...
Anyway looks like you had a great time, it is the most important thing after all.

Cheers!
Andrey

Thanks ipanetom!
Atacama and Salta are at the top of the list for the next time we make it to Argentina and Chile. They look amazing. We really wanted to go there, but it's so far away from Patagonia that we couldn't make it work.

Thanks David, no kidding. Lots of early morning hikes this trip to remind me.

Hi Andrey, thanks and glad you like the images. Had a great time indeed!
It was a really misty morning and it had rained the night before, that is probably the main factor for perceived detail in the peaks. It looks better at full size.

Very nice John! I like all of these but #2 is especially very nice with the color and your composition you have in it.

If #4 had the color that #2 has that would be my pick out of all of them.

Beautiful. Nice work!

Nice shots! I have a print at home from Jack Brauer that looks very similar to your first shot. I really like it. Of all of those, #2 I think is the best. That composition expresses the light really well and I'm a sucker for the cinematic format.
