p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sigma 35 and 50 1.4 ART-Anyone own both?

Let me start by saying that the Sigma 35 1.4 is one of the best(and most used) lenses I've ever owned. I couldn't resist an amazing buy on the 50 1.4 ART recently thinking I'd try both and keep one.

It's turned out to be more of a challenge than I thought because they are far more different than I expected. It's not just an extra 15mm.

Anyone else fall in love with both of these great lenses and end up keeping both? I think I'll be in trouble if Sigma eventually releases an 84 1.4 ART.

What makes them so different? I only own the 50mm so I'm interested. I'd love the 35mm art and want to use 35mm more but I just don't use it enough to justify the cost.

35mm and 50mm a quite different FLs for me just like 50mm and 85mm and don't know how people often work with the 35/85 combination alone.

I had both for a while and ended up keeping the 50mm version. I kept finding myself getting closer with the 35mm to fill the frame more like the 50 would but each lens did act different. With my copies the 50mm seemed faster to lock on focus and had better results.

I definitely can't wait for an 85mm ART or even better a 105/135 flavor!

I own both, but if I had to take just two lenses on a trip, it would be the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art HSM and the Nikkor 58mm f/1.8 AF-S G. The two focals complement each other perfectly.

i own the sigma 35 1.4 art, 50 1.4 Art and the nikon 58 1.4g.

i have separate uses for all 3.

the 35 1.4 Art has a shorter MFD and i use it during newborn sessions to get up close but still stay nice and wide and the distortion is minimal and almost non existant with LR profile control.

the 50 1.4 Art I use during newborn sessions as well as it is my sharpest lens wide open. I can 100% feel confident shooting @ 1.4 with the 50 and getting razor sharp images while composing more wide shots that I need to be up close with the extra focal length.

and the 58 1.4 I use pretty much for any outdoor portraiture.

I use all 3 on my D800e and love them all.

I owned a 35A before and I felt like it just wasn't for me. I currently shoot with Nikkor equivalents: the 35mm f/1.8G and the amazing 58mm f/1.4G. Like Del-Uks said, if I were to go on a trip, I just take my 35/58 combo... and maybe the new 20mm f/1.8G

Da 'monkey early adopted each and won't part with either.
Grandkids, weddings/receptions, pubbin'...lots of reasons
to break 'em out. That 50's damn near a mini Chub.
FWIW, I'm patiently waitin' on the 135 A

A 35 and a 50?

The two most classic focal lengths to use! Of course you want both!

(And if I shot Canikon it'd be the Sigmas I'd want)

I had both and both are excellent by any measurement. I ended up selling the 50 and keeping the 35, since I had 35-50-85 focal lengths, I always found myself gravitating toward either 35, or 85....50mm just isn't a preferential focal length for me, I've gone through several different ~50mm lenses through the years and it always ends up the same...though the 50A is optically the best ~50mm I've owned.

The main reason I bought 50A was how much I loved our 35A. And 50A did not disappoint. Have both now, and will likely keep both.

I own both and use the 50 slightly more than the 35. 35 used to be my favorite FL but lately I just really enjoy the 50 more.

I'm also about to pull the plug on the 24

I own both. They are absolutely fantastic. Now as far as focal lengths...well its totally personal as for what you like to use.

but both the 35 & 50 Art lenses are top of the line, AFAIC. I use them both extensively & sold my Nikon lenses when I got the Sigmas.

135A would be really nice, so would a 85A.

I have both lenses, and love the heck out of both of them. There are a few items a person buys that just are home runs from the instant the box is opened... both fit that bill.

Had the 50 Art right after it came out and let a friend buy it from me, but I knew I'd get it again ASAP-- and I did a few days ago. Just a few quick shots here without benefit of dock-tuning yet. I am so pumped to have this lens back in my bag!

I have both currently. I used the 35mm ART a lot more at first since I got it first. Then the other day I just did a mini portrait session and only had the 50mm with me. The images turned out so good. These lenses are built well and have a dock, how cool is that.

I had the 50mm 1.4 and never was happy with it. The 1.8G was a lot better IMHO. And the 1.8G is still a great lens and so lightweight. But I do like the ART better, of course the price is 5x. So YMMV.

All of these are with the 50mm. (i'm not super PRO but was happy)

I waited all my life for a fast 35 that didn't suck, so the 35 Art is manna from heaven. The 50 looks similarly impressive, but it's too close a FL for me and I have decent fast 50's in manual focus. Show me the 85 Art, and I'm all over it...

Well, I've fixed the problem. Now I have the 24, 35 and 50ART lenses. I'd love to see an 85A.

I originally planned to just buy lenses Nikon 24mm PC-E, Sigma 50mm f1.4 ART, and Nikon 85mm f1.8G. I ended up buying the Sigma 35mm f1.4 ART as well. I thought I'd try it and see if I should sell the 50mm. I came to love both of these lenses equally. I use the 35mm a bit more than the 50mm, but honestly don't see me selling either of them. Or the 24mm PC-E. I could be enticed to swap the Nikon 85mm for something better, such as a Sigma 85mm ART, or something exotic in the future such as a 100mm f1.8.
