This is the time the American Oystercatchers pair up at Nickerson Beach on Long Island, New York. Watching there mating ritual is always a delight.

D300 + 80-400 VR @ 400mm, ISO 400, 1/1000, f8, fill flash (Metz 64 + JJC flash extender)

The first photos are cropped quite a bit. I was moving towards them and they towards me throughout the short sequence.

Comments and suggestions welcome,

Morris

These are great, Morris. Oystercatchers are an interesting bird (with an interesting name, too!) and you really captured them well. Nice work.

Thank you John,
The landing is good and having it land with it's mate dancing up to it is the one for me

Thank you Lucky,
Manual exposure and automatic flash to deal with the situation. My favorite way to work.

You are correct there is no room to be off with the dark feathers, black heads and white feathers as well

Thank you Mark,
They should call them sand crab catchers as that is what they seem to eat most on this beach
