Very cool shots of some incredibly large and really noisy animals Bruce. Did you take these by St. Simeon?....if so, time of day is so important when shooting there. My first time I was too late and shot dead into the sun the whole time...I learned pretty quickly better times to shoot.

Eric,
thanks for taking a look.. These seals are indeed huge and some of the old and weathered guys often have interesting faces that contrast strangely with their mass. This was shot at San Simeon and I was a bit too late in the day. I was staying at a cliff-side lodge in Big Sur and wanted to shoot a sunrise series at Sand Dollar Beach. I then booked down the coast to San Simeon and was there at 10:00... way too late. So I hung out at a nearby town until later in the day and photographed the seals in warmer light. The shadows on that beach are murder. The next time I visit, I will plan to spend a few nights in San Simeon so I can photograph the seals during both ends of the day. Regardless of the time, this is a wildlife spectacle that was well worth the visit.
