Hello members:
I recently bought a 300 L F4 IS and took some test shots at Willow Springs Raceway and they came out very nice. Was thinking of buying the 400 L F 5.6 after reading the great reviews, but decided to purchase a Canon 1.4 version 2 extender. I can also use the extender on my 70-200 L F 4 non IS lens. My question is how does image quality of my setups compare with the 400 L F 5.6 and the 400 DO lens. I have been seeing a number of postings of the DO version 1 lens and it visually looks just awesome. Thanks very much !

From what I've read...

The 400 f5.6 will be a bit sharper, lighter and AF speed faster. As for the 400 DO, it has IS and is f4 instead of f5.6 which means you could use a 2x telecoverter with a body that AFs at f8; if you want to take the IQ hit. The 400 DO has been discussed a ton on this forum, you might try a search as there are images that might help.

thing is I know the price of a v1 DO has dropped since the k2 came out but its still way more than either of the other 2 to really not be a consideration .
If your going to consider the DO and can afford to then by all means do so but I think id pile my cash into the 100-400 mk2 (and scarce the 1 stop) or a decent Ver 1 300/2.8
