Okay ... so I got my lens today and went out to just take some very random, rookie style shooting. Nothing structured, no comparative, just "wingin' it".
I started on my SLR/C and it was slow to AF and wouldn't hold focus very well. The FF did show some vignetting as I expected. However, when I switched over to my T5i Rebel, the focus became much snappier (go figure) and acted like an AF should. My general thought on it was "This ain't your daddy's Sigma." compared to the Siggy's I've used before. It would seem that they've upped their game a bit in that department.
I'll post up some pics tomorrow or the next day or so, but I'm going to post up one "teaser" tonight.
This is hand-held with IS on 1/320, f8, ISO 200 @ 600mm fully racked out on the Rebel T5i (700D). It is 100% crop coming from the camera jpg (i.e. NOT RAW). I didn't have much sharpening on the camera (that's just how I shoot), so I did do my usual (or close to) sharpening in post. Disclaimers noted @ unscientific method, here is one of the shots that caught my attention.
The image was pre-focused using AF on the rim (i.e. not the ball), just waiting for timing of ball to come into the frame. Now, here's the thing ... read my note under the picture AFTER your look at the rim & net.
Your call @ how to interpret this.
Shot from about 100 yards away.
