Nobody is paying $1,600 for a used 70-200 VR1 (I hope!), you can get a brand new VR II for $2096 in the USA, or approx. $1,555 USD if you are willing to ship it back to Canada should there ever be a warranty issue. Used VR1's are going for about $1200-1250 USD, and even that is way too high given the CAD/USD exchange rate at the moment IMHO. Americans can get amazing deals right now on camera gear.

I sure do wish it was the other way around with the Coolpix A

The Vr1 can be had for around 1000-1200easily. I bought mine for 1050 in exc condition. Or if you don't need the 2.8 the f4 is a very nice lens as well and around the same price point

Get a D600 used. If any problems arise, Nikon will replace the shutter for free and give a general clean if the shutter has not already been replaced. That's my story. Used D600's are quite affordable.

A 70-200 on this camera just sings!

How is 70-200 vr1 on full frame camera? I hear there's problem with vignetting. Is it really that bad or just overhyped isuue? Anybody using 24-120 f4? Is is worth to get?

I got the 24-120G f/4 as part of my kit with the D750 and love it.
It's on par with my old Canon 24-105L f/4.

It's not that bad, but the VR2 is significantly better, enough so that anyone serious about it would most likely take the VR2. The VR in the VR2 is also noticeably more effective, AF is slightly faster, and it is slightly sharper in the center of the frame. The VR2 does have a lot more focus breathing though (at MFD it is around 135mm not 200mm).

The VR1 vgnetting is fairly pronounced at F2.8, but you aren't likely to notice it too much without a light background. The corner sharpness fall off is not going to be a big issue if you aren't filling the entire frame with the subject.

You can get a VR2 for $1,660 right now if you live in the USA (just buy in Canada), so that is a complete no-brainer unless you have a very strict budget.

The 24-120 is a solid performer. It's better than the Canon 24-105L if you are familiar with that. With any zoom, it has it's compromises, but as a general walk around lens it's hard to make a case against it. You should be able to pick one up very cheaply from one of the people getting good deals on D750 & 24-120/4 kits.

Honestly I liked my 70-200 vr1 on my D800. It wasn't terrible I'm sure that the VR2 is better but for the money unless you don't mind the f4 aperture the vr1 would be hard to beat. I'm sorry I never used sigma or tamron's offerings.. The f4 apparently is a phenomenal lens

Here is my two cents. I sold my 5DII last year and bought a D3S and a D600, so I feel like I can give a proper review of the switch.

I owned the 17-40, 24-70 and 70-200 v1
I sold all of that and got the 14-24, 28-70 & 70-200 VRII

The VRII 70-200 doesn't vignette that bad. You'll be fine. Ergonomics will be all over the place for you for a while, but you'll get used to it. I reversed my shutter and aperture dials so it felt more like the canon. Aperture in the back, and SS in the front. I also flipped the light meter to read in the same direction as canon. That helped a lot.

The focus and zoom are opposite than what your muscle memory knows. This threw me off for about 3 weeks, and then it was the new 'normal'.

Personally the D600 feels a lot like the 5DII while shooting, the AF on mine was unreliable when it got darker, and the file sizes gave me some frustration. However, I enjoyed the colors and final results more.

My biggest caveat with the d600 is that it is a fragile machine. I dropped, scuffed, and even dunked my 5DII several times, and it was clicking like new the day I sold it. I dropped my d600 from about 20 inches... all the front plastic cracked off and it no longer metered or autofocused. But YMMV.

If you are set on switching, I'd save up some cash and get the D750. it looks better built, and you'll be blown away in the change of autofocus response.

I went from a 5D Mark III to a D610 and it had like 95% of the camera for 1/2 the price, WOW. I will say the 5D mark III if you shooting for 3-4 hours is a lot more comfortable for me (D750 is a lot better than D600/D610). However the DR in the nikon, very happy with the end results.

Right now I think you get a better value with the Nikon on the body. My SWOT anylasis was the 6D /5D mark III vs D600. I really like the key features the D600 got for "FREE". (see my other posts for a detailed list of these features).

Overall I have been very a happy, I still like both systems, but on limited resources I felt the switch was worth while for me and what I shoot currently.

Good luck

How would one go about doing that? Do you mean that they sell for the same amount in both, US & Canada, but because of the currency difference, it turns out to be cheaper to buy in Canada?

Things have changed since I posted that, Nikon has raised their prices considerably. Looks like it would still be around $1,900 which isn't as good.

To answer your question though, yes they sold for almost the same in Canada and the USA (at times it's actually been cheaper in Canada even before the exchange rate). Reputable stores like Henry's in Toronto will sell to the USA, shipping is $13 I believe, no hidden charges, and according to reports you even avoid your state tax. You still get full warranty, you just need to send it to Canada for service instead of within the USA in the very unlikely event something goes wrong in the warranty period. Definitely something to keep an eye on with the CAD/USD over 1.30 now. Canada generally has very good pricing on camera gear, not much different from the USA, so it can be worth your while to keep an eye on the currency. As I was saying before though, back in May Nikon raised prices considerably, so it's not as attractive at the moment.

I switched from a 5Dii to a D600 last year, so I think I can chime in well on this subject. The biggest aggravation for me about the canon was its pathetic AF. The D600 is fairly better, but about the same in low-light situations. As far as IQ, I do not see too much of a difference at lower ISO ratings, however, I never liked going past 5000 on the 5Dii, and I go to 6400 on the nikon.
I prefer the ergonomics of the 5Dii, and I felt safer in the rain with the canon as well. I've dropped the 5Dii in water and onto concrete many times, and everything worked fine. My nikon broke on its first 3-foot fall and spent 6 weeks in the shop because of it.
I shoot 50/50 video, and the fact that I cannot change aperture in live view with the d600 drives me mad. The footage is sharper, but it's more of a hassle to acquire. Canon's battery grips drain both batteries at the same time, and nikon uses one after another. What this means is that the first nikon battery will die while recording, and you'll lose the footage. When Canon batteries die, it saves the footage before shutting down. Big life-saver.
All in all, I wouldn't switch from Canon just for the d600. The D750, however, is an entirely different story, so if you are sure about the switch, I recommend saving your cash for now and getting that powerful beast.

Get a D750 or D810 and the 1.8 primes of your choice and a 70-200 vrII and you'll be set
