p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Birds on the Oregon Coast

We had some wonderful transient weather at Rockaway Beach, Oregon, over the weekend. Just strolling down the beach was a target-rich opportunity. Hope you enjoy, and open to C&C.

The full set, including more than just birds , is here:

Very nice set, but the last, in B&W stands out as the best composition.
The clouds, distant stacks & of course the birds!

Hi George,

The last 2 are very nice, good job on those.

Now the first 3 photos are rather lacking. The first is OOF in the foreground and just a scattered of birds, nothing in that shot does anything for me. In #2, the OOF foreground again really hurts the shot, but at least the background with the arch and the shape of the birds in flight has some shape. But I have to ask why didn't you move forward since you had such a beautiful arch in the shot? Now #3 isn't OOF in the foreground which is great, but that woman walking in the shot really ruins it. Clone her out and you will have a nice shot.

I do want to ask what is your focus here? If it's just birds, then you probably should be posting these in the nature/wildlife forum. That's the forum for animals, birds, etc. But if your focus was Landscapes and you just happened to have some birds added to your landscapes as added interest then they belong in the Landscape forum. It's all about what your focus is, it appears that it's the birds, and if so your photos would be better served in the Nature/Wildlife forum.

Thanks for the feedback, Dan & Jim.

Good point about the proper forum. I didn't really even think about posting these to the nature/wildlife forum. In my mind, these were landscapes that happen to have birds, so I posted them here, using the birds to tie them together. I suppose the first shot isn't much of a landscape shot, though. Good feedback and I'll be more thoughtful in the future.

And Jim, thanks for your feedback on the composition. The arch shot was taken with a telephoto, and I couldn't really get the foreground out. I'll try cropping it to 16x9.

I'll post a few of the sunset shots I got in this same location later.
