p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Utah Desert - Horseshoe and Escalante Canyons

Spring is on the way and I'm thinking about heading back out to the Utah desert soon - I took a trip last April and found some beautiful sites in Horseshoe and Escalante Canyons.

Here are a few shots from last year's trip and I have a few more on my Smugmug site:

I hope I can make it out there again this year!

Hey Jim,

That is a cool Rainbow in #1. My favorite though is #5, I really like that composition.

Thanks Jim - I like the rainbow too since I've seen so few full arcs over the years but #5 was my favorite too - probably my favorite from the trip.

If I ranked these in my order of preference it would probably be #1, #4, #2, #3, #5. But, whose counting... At least you managed the 3.5 mile slog through the sand...

Nice job!

Thanks Craig - I appreciate your comments and I'll ponder your ordering of the photos. I like #5 because I love the gnarled old junipers and I like the juxtaposition of the old juniper with the fresh flowers of the desert bitterbrush, all immersed in the red sand and sandstone. That said it was mid to late morning sun and I know it could be better if I was there with better light.

The slog wasn't too bad. I met a Southern California photographer down in the canyon, Ben Horne, who carried his large format gear and camping gear down. My old legs just aren't up to 80 pound backpacks anymore!

Cheers,
Jim
