Longest title ever.

Is this too busy as-processed? Is it too busy regardless? Where do your eyes go? I've got other shots focusing much more on the door/message, but I like the overall scene as well.

The square crop is out of my comfort zone, so would love some feedback on that if you've got any.

Otherwise I'm open to any comments/questions/feedback/reworks.

Cheers,

Jeff

I suspect a longer tonal range might be better. The subject is quite gritty so a touch less gritty in the processing might also be better. I'm good with the square format, but if you'd have taken it from a little to the left, the door and message would have been less centered which would have been a plus, I suspect.

Thanks, Karen - I generally tend to amp up sharpness (maybe to a fault) with my mono stuff.

I should have some room to play with if the overly centered subject is less appealing.

I'll throw up a rework when I can get in front of the [home] computer!

Cheers,

Jeff

To answer directly, yes the image, as processed, is too busy. As Karen said, rule of thirds, tonal range & contrast can do a lot.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Recropped, pulled back on sharpness and didn't go as extreme in tonality.

Improvement?

Thanks,

Jeff

Tighter and more from the side (in two flavors).

For me, a richer image in color. Especially like the satirical graffiti, "open your mind." Nice capture.

Thanks eeneryma! The way the sun made the gold light up is what drew me to the shot in the first place.

What's your primary intended message? ... let that be your guide to your crop / pp decisions.

Definitely the metaphor of opening the "door" to your mind.
