p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Bald Eagles from the Guntersville Dam nest with Tamron 150-600

My wife got her Tamron 150-600 on Saturday so we headed out to the Dam on Sunday to give it a try. Think she was very pleased with the results. I posted some of mine with the 300mm F4 for comparison. These are all crops as the nest is 80-90 yards away. They were all taken handheld.

All are nice, the 300 clearly did a better job

Nice set. I agree with Morris . Despite the difference in the focal length, the shots with the 300 appear to have more detail.

Great shots. I actually think the Tamron shots are just as sharp and show more detail because they filled the frame more. Especially seen in the one shot that is almost identical in the two sets.

Do they have just one eaglet in the nest or two?

morris & birdied, The 300mm f4 is the sharpest lens I've ever owned/used. I've seen enough shots posted by others that I knew what to expect from the Tamron. For the money it's hard to beat. I typically crop her nest shots more than mine since she uses the 24mp D7100 regardless of the lens she is using but being able to fill more of the frame makes a huge differnce in the level of detail.

arbitrage, Only one eaglet this year, not sure how may eggs they had to start with.

Here are similar shots/crops of the nest taken at the same time for comparison. Just keep in mind the D300 is 12mp so not sure if it's really a fair comparison.

Great shots.
I have both of these lenses and find the Tamron is much sharper if you back it off to 500mm.
My 300mm f4 is very sharp but just does not have the reach sometimes. Have ordered a TC 1.4 to use with it. Use both lenses with D810 and usually crop heavily. Also have the D300, a great camera as well.
Best wishes.

Hi Robert, I rember you posting in the Buy/Sell looking for the Tamron.
Since it was her first day out with the lens we took shots at variousfocal lengths and aparatures so we could compare. It may be a little softer at 600 but still very good.
