p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Rarely seen copulation

Posted an image of this scene last year on Bug Guide for an ID. Found another last week & then today, found what's about the best image showing the parasitization ...Halictoxenos (twisted wing insect) male copulating with it's mate which is inside of the abdomen of the larger Lasioglossum (Sweat Bee)... The male Halictoxenos only lives for about 5 hours after it is born & has no mouth parts which which to feed. It's sole purpose is to find a mate to copulate with, then it dies...If you want to see it larger, click on the link to go to the Flickr image where it can be viewd up to 1632 X 1000
