I was able to shoot nearly every Tennessee Men's and Women's basketball game this year. It was an investment of considerable time, but I think it really pushed me to grow as a photographer. I got more proficient and efficient in the editing, captioning and the uploading process. Also, I think my images got better over time, too. Since I was shooting so many games, I was able to take some chances and look for special moments and was not always focused on the play by play action in front of me.
I also tried to shoot tight and and at times, loose. I shot quite a bit with a 400 2.8 IS. This was a challenge, especially on a crowded baseline. It's heavy and a bit unwieldy to switch between bodies and lenses without killing the photog next to you. It is also a bit of a challenge to keep players in the frame, even at the far end and from 1/2 court in, it is really, really tough. But, when you nail it, it makes a really nice images
.
I also used the 24-70 2.8 v2 quite a bit. Normally, I prefer the 70-200 as my go to lens for basketball. It allowed me to shoot some floor to basket images from under the basket and also worked well for athletes driving the baseline right next to me.
This post may be a bit image heavy, but just wanted to let you see some of the images I liked.
