A ring flash is likely to limit how close you can work. Maybe not such a problem with the 100mm?

As far as I can make out it is not a LED ring flash but a proper flash gun with LED focus assist lights. There's a long thread here http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1332042&page=1 discussing it. Seems to work ok but flashes like this are very difficult to diffuse well.
