New 750 owner wanting to get a 24-70 lens. I have read a lot touting the Tamron, but I have never owned one. Anyone here have experience with that lens?

On another note, would the 24-120 be better as far as image quality (not distance)

What aperture you normally need to shoot at?

Love Nikon's 24-70. Great for events. Never shot the Tammy version. Keep resale value in mind when making the decision. I've owned the 24-70 from it initial release and the yearly cost of owning that lens is pretty low--if I ever decide to sell it.

Usually try to shoot F4-F8.

I understand the resale thing, and only have one third party lens, but it is a good one - sigma 35 art. That is what is getting me to look at others.

Had two copies of the Tammy, both were unacceptable even at F/5.6. Some here had good copies and praised the lens. All of my Nikon 24-70 copies were great.

Bottom line is that if you go with the Tammy for cost savings, make sure you can return it if you get a dud.

I have the Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC and the older Nikkor 28-70 2.8 AFS. I purchased the Tamron because I had a job to do and the Nikkor was in for repair. The internal electrical ribbon connector had become unglued and was jamming during focussing.

The Tamron produces great shots for me on D300S, D7100 and D810. Very sharp straight out of the box. Where it works for me is the low light capabilities. I can shoot handheld at 1/30sec with confidence when the VC is engaged.

However, for normal shooting I will always reach for the Nikkor first. I can't tell you why exactly but the images produced by the Nikkor are just more pleasing to my eye.

The Tamron is a great value lens.
