Canon 500 Version 1 with 1.4X III.
Per Ted and BeeBalm's posts I too welcome critiques and suggestions.
I believe we can all become better if we're man/woman enough to accept constructive critiques.
I'm been guilty of telling some folks that they have posted great pics when they may have been less that great.

Rod

Lovely work Rod !

Between shots 1 and 2, 1 is my pick due to the birds position and head tilt.
The cardinals have beautiful natural looking colors . The male has the subtle red variations that are often hard to capture.

If you are not opposed to cloning out branches, I would clone out the OOF branches behind the lady in 73 and the gentleman in 75, but that is certainly very minor and a matter of personal taste.

Great set.

At least three of them were thinking, "if that's an 800mm, I'm outta here!".

Did I miss 1-70? I like the head tilt of the first coupled with the better background separation of the second...I really like the iq of Mrs. Cardinal and while the branches behind are a little distracting they are not a deal killer for me. Now when to we get to see the first seventy?!

Well Rod, I am happy that you welcome CC but, in all honesty, I wouldn't change anything with these fabulous images. They are all excellent.

Now that you mention it, you could have combed the feathers on the back of that pecker.

Rod
These shots are really good. They're sharp with incredible detail and color. I disagree with Birdie though. If that's where the bird landed then so be it. While it would be a better photo without those branches.....that's not what you shot.
IMHO.

These are simply excellent. Those 500 v1's do a great job, even with the 1.4, or I'd sell mine (which ain't gonna happen anytime soon). I like everything about these. If I had to come up with something to question, I'd have to agree that cloning out those OOF twigs below the birds would be nice, but certainly no deal breaker. Also, the two male Cards seem to have a dark "halo" around their edges. Not sure what caused that, but I do know one particular image process function in Photoshop can cause it if not used right. I commented on the same thing on another's post earlier today. But these are nit picks for sure. They are great images and that 500 and TC are doing a fine job in your skilled hands.

Great shots overall. The two male cardinals have some sort of dark halo around them, not sure if that was a PP thing or what. The 3 cardinal shots have better head angles and more engaging with the viewer. The 2 peckers are looking away from the camera so less engaging. Tell those peckers to look at the camera next time

Rod:

All four have excellent IQ IMO.

1-2, I like both. I prefer the pose in #1 but prefer #2 because of a less distracting bg.

Your female cardinal is a stunner. When the tuff is up you got the pose on a cardinal. A distracting bg was mentioned below the perch which I do not see as a major or minor distraction. If you do, I did a 3-minute redo.

Your two males.....when the tuff is up, you got the pose.

Great shots Rod!

Ted

Gotta love that 500, Rod. IMO, cleaner backgrounds are always helpful.

Real nice set Rod. I love the feather detail. #72 has a bright spot under the beak that could be darkened. There is a halo around the top of #75. It is probably from a mask or shadow/highlights. #73 is my pick and a beauty.

Yes, it is called the Photo Critique Forum.

Some people just don't want to post on the most appropriate forum for some reason.

Tony:

If this were a problem with Fred or the majority of members here or any of the other boards, don't you think Fred would have corrected that by now ?

Maybe you are right Tony, you have much to offer as you PP is top tier but can you step to the plate?

Lovely series of photos, Rod! NUmber 73 and 75 are the pick for me, good eye contact and poses.
