Beautiful. I love seeing cardinals in the snow! That's one bird I really miss having moved to California ten years ago.
The birds are so well photographed, with impressive detail, rich color, and lovely poses. But I must admit that I had the same reaction as Ted. If you want a Christmas card effect, then anything you can do to make the branches less interesting--such as reducing saturation, reducing contrast (possibly by making them much darker or lighter?), even reducing their thickness--would help. I do not believe a dark background would be better. However, you might try increasing the contrast of the background to make the falling snow more visible.
