I shoot most studio portraits with a D800 and a Nikon 70-200mm f2.8. I use a Buff beauty dish with a sock diffuser for the main light. I used to have a real problem with the lens hunting for focus even with a modeling light on. So, I setup a second, rather bright modeling light and it seems to fix the issue. However, in my last two sessions, I had to switch to my 24-70 because the 70-200 was hunting for focus so much and several times never gaining critical focus. It is beginning to be very annoying and frustrating.
This lens focuses fine in almost every situation except for this. Today, I even left the overhead fluorescent lights on and it still hunted for focus quite often.
I'm shooting mostly AF-S Single point, F8, 100 ISO with 1/125th ss.
THanks for any help you might offer.
