I own the non os version. it is really really sharp. the af is not super fast and it doesnt lock focus super fast. its not like a 70-200 2.8. it works best on a tripod, its a macro lens.

+1 on all counts. It's the only Sigma lens I have left that has high IQ and is different enough from the Nikon and Canon offerings to be useful.

How does this (Non OS Sigma 150 2.8) compare to Nikon 105 2.8 VR?

In what respect IQ? The Sigma will be sharper than the Nikon. Seems the Sigma 150mm and the Nikon 200mm are likely the best macros ever that AF. Now when you get in to manual focus there are others in terms of sharpness and bokeh ( very important). I was lucky to get a mint condition "Bokina" last year, the legendary Tokina 90mm F2.5.

It's interesting there are different levels of sharpness. I wouldn't think you could improve upon the Sigma, but the Tokina does. The fine detail it can render is amazing.

I've had both... the Sigma IMO is the better lens overall and also gives you a longer working distance. As a bonus, it also doubles as a fantastic portrait lens! Mine was the non-OS version and I was very happy with it.

My only two issues with the Sigma was that the autofocus is extremely slow and the paint started to peel after a few years. Beneath the paint was a glossy finish that looks EXACTLY like the Art series finish now

Here's one taken with my non-OS 150:

I had the 150 pre-OS and loved it. one of the few lenses I regret selling. I've been contemplating getting another macro lens as I kindof miss it. the only ones I'm even contemplating are the pre-OS siggy, nikkor 200/4, or a voigtlander 125/2.5 if I can find one at a reasonable price.

here's a shot from back when I had the siggy 150.
