I've been AWOL from the Landscape forum for a while. Work hasn't left me me much time to shoot, and even less to process; and I have no doubt missed a lot of inspiring images displayed here. I did take some (much needed) personal time after a January meeting in Florida and shot both birds and landscapes in the Everglades. I'm afraid I may be slow in getting them processed so rather than wait until I have more to post, I'll drop this one into the hopper by itself.
This was from a section of coastal prairie/salt marsh near the southern tip of the "land" in Everglades National Park. "Land" is a relative term, because I got to this location at sunset only after about 2 miles of hiking through some of the gooiest mud in creation and about a mile of knee-deep seasonally-flooded prairie. And this was an officially-maintained trail.
But the coastal prairie habitat is fascinating and worth the effort to experience; it is otherworldly in kind of the way Badwater can be. The vast fields of saltwort and glasswort are punctuated by stands of skeleton trees that were killed by earlier hurricanes. Finding an somewhat interesting composition was a bit of a challenge, but the sunset certainly made its contribution that night.
