p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Old Houses - Kansas City style

I've recently taken up photographing various architecture in the Kansas City area. These were all put together in Photomatix for exposure blending/HDR.

All photos taken with Nikon D810.

As always, C&C welcome.

#3 is my favorite.
The first 2 have too much of the HDR look for my tastes.
They are some interesting properties to look at.

Thanks Pokemanyz.

I agree about #2 and the HDR look and it's not really my style. I made 2 versions of the photo and one had more HDR look than the other. Then I let my kids (age 9 and 13) vote on which one they preferred. You won't be surprised to know they liked the one with the HDR look better.

You knew you were opening a can of worms posting anything with HDR treatment on here. I understand the comments but think the images are attention-getting. I especially like number four. It looks like a movie poster. IMO it's no different than portrait photographers changing eye shapes, jawlines, ears, waistlines. I often shoot head shots of realtors. They all want to look like they just graduated from high school. If you have the tools and it works for you and the customer, that's all that matters.

Very nicely done.

Yes. yes I did know I'd be opening up a can of worms.

I think we all have a line of what's an acceptable look for HDR. I think general public is much more accepting than photographers of a photo with HDR look. Personally, photo #1 is an acceptable amount of HDR look for me. #2 has gone overboard.

But I have one amateur photographer acquaintance who loves heavy surreal type HDR. He gets tons of likes. It doesn't work for me but he's definitely got his fans.

For those who know Photomatix, there are many different ways to blend exposures. And they have a bunch of presets. I've never messed with the "surreal" presets at all but usually start out with natural or photographic and adjust to taste.

For what it's worth, this version of house #2 is one I like better.
