I just moved out here and it looks like there is not a lot of photo ops here. Maybe I'll just need to road trip to Colorado. I visited Monument Rocks Natl. Landmark today, but the clouds didn't cooperate, and a blanket of them were moving through, so it was going to destroy golden hour.

I'd love to hear/see about cool photo locations in the area. I'm based in Garden City now.

I have been to Garden City and that area. I, honestly, think it is beautiful in its own right. I'd photograph barns, sunsets, beautiful rolling vista's, agriculture stuff, windmills, flowers in the spring, beautiful big old trees--I don't know, and other interesting stuff. I'm just trying to encourage you to see the beauty around you--cause whether its western Kansas or western Wyoming it does exist. Pep talk--sorta. Have fun exploring!!

Super nice image!! I have been through that area many times and didn't know this area even existed. I'll bet you find plenty to shoot, and like you said, you can scat across eastern CO and up into the mtns on weekend jaunts quite easily.

Thanks Dave, I'm new to the area, and everything seems so open and barren... It's beautiful in its own way, I just need to figure out how to capture it.
Bob, I do want to visit CO soon. The closest Natl. park to me is Sand Dunes, and I have heard it's truly epic.

In central Kansas you may want to look up Mushroom Rock State Park (a small 5 acre park) and Rock City (a private park small donation required). Both have interesting rock formations.

It's not landscape photography by any means but if it's still there (it was in 2008) a drive around the small town of Mullinville can be entertaining. There's a character there who creates bizarre metal sculptures, hundreds of them, and displays them along the road.

You might look into "The Brakes" in northwest Kansas. Lots of very rugged country there.
Also check around the lakes and rivers
Obviously not the grandeur of Colorado, but there is much to see.
Ks. also has some of the most beautiful sun rise and sets of any state.

Kansas has numerous lists of "8 Wonders."

Some of them might be worthwhile destinations.
