Just for mine from samys, now the question began, should I pair it with d7200 for the reach or d810 for the FF look and better balance ? Will post pics later

D810 even in DX mode gives you 15.3MP which is still plenty. So I don't quite understand the "reach" advantage of D7200. Mount it on your D810, enjoy FF, and just crop afterwards for "better reach", when needed And if you absolutely need a bit faster fps, or perhaps want to deal with smaller file sizes, just shoot with your D810 in DX mode.

Just received my Sigma 150-600 "C" today from Samy's Camera in L.A. I am usually a B&H or Adorama guy but they didn't have them in stock. Samy's service was great BTW. Put the lens on the D750 to take some shots at a local park few hours ago. Compared to the Nikon 80-400 G I just sold, the Sigma feels heavier. I would say the built quality is about the same as the Nikon. I have not tried BIF yet. For static subjects, the AF lock on speed is about the same as the Nikon too. But moving from close subjects to subjects in distance, or vice versa, it seemed to take a bit longer than the Nikon, nothing scientific, just perception. I may be wrong. Anyway, the pictures below are straight out of the camera, unprocessed, uncropped, no MA.

Not sure why the EXIF in my flickr account shows 604.1mm FL.

Thanks for looking,

Douglas

Because it's enough for you it doesn't mean it's enough for everybody else.
Over here birds are very shy, so I need all the "reach" I can get.

First day with the Sigma 150-600mm C.

Overall I'm really pleased with the image quality. Some nitpicks with the AF but that can be expected for the price. Have the sports coming next week to cross check against but it is going to be a hard sell. OS is horrible. Hardly seems like it is working.

Folks, I tried out this lens with the D750 on Sunday at an airshow. Rather then uploading individual pictures here, here is the link if you are interested. Any C&C are welcome.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/douglasliu/sets/72157654633472151/with/18668899068/

I found the Sigma is sharp enough for me. In terms of over all sharpness, it's hard to distinguish it from the Nikon 80-400 G I sold, but I did not do any direct comparison as I no longer have the Nikon lens. Nothing scientific, so take it as a grain of salt.

AF is fast enough for planes as their movement is not unpredictable like birds. Although I did manage to shoot some gulls in flight, they looked pretty sharp too. The zoom is very tight, hopefully it will loosen up a bit as it gets used more. While having 600mm is good, because the jets were flying so fast, they fill the frame quickly and "over" fill it quickly too when I didn't zoom out fast enough. I guess practicing more with this lens will help. The vignetting is pretty bad but Lightroom takes care of that.

Overall, I am very happy with this lens. This is the second third party lens (first one was the Sigma 35mm Art) I bought and I have owned maybe over 35 Canon, Nikon and Sony lenses over the years.

For those who wants to get a case for it, I got the Thinktank Digital Holster 30 V2. It fits the lens attached to the D750 with an inch extra room if the hood is in the reverse position. The 95mm B+W UV filter cost me $140! That's 13% of the lens' price. I am not getting a 95 mm CLP.

Cheers,

Douglas

Hey Douglas, I used the D800 for these. I now have both the Sport and the Contemporary. I will do a comparison on them against the 300mm VRII + 2xIII in the next couple of weeks.

Damn Corey those turned out really well! I'll be incredibly curious on your opinion of the 300 w/ tc vs. this thing.

How's the mobility of it? Pretty light and feels good/balanced with the D800 body?

The Contemporary balances very nicely with the d800. The 300mm VRII + 2xIII and the Sport are both heavy lenses but the build quality is amazing. I wish I could keep all 3 of them to be honest as they each have their strengths and weaknesses. I will do a better writeup/video in the coming weeks but you can't go wrong with any of them to be honest. They are all quality lenses capable of producing fantastic results.

So I have been out testing the Sigma 150-600mm Sport most of the day. Damn, this is going to be a tough decision. It is heavy but I'm used to it with the 300mm VRII. The quality of the lens is phenomenal. Buttery smooth focus, amazing push pull zoom. The image quality seems to be slightly better than the C. (F6.3 is about as sharp on the sport as the Contemporary @ F8) Also slightly better contrast with the sport.

Here are a few shots.
