It must have been a thrill to see this animal. I have never seen one wild. I like how he/she appears out of the grass in 1.

Thanks Morris...lots of low light shooting meant high iso except in that first one....It really helps with the iq I think

Thanks Geoff, it makes for an interesting backdrop but on the other hand it does make viewing the cats a much tougher job.

That's for sure...I wasn't prepared for a spotted cat that was the size of a lion

It was quite a thrill and their size is unexpected, especially the ones in the Pantanal. This is a he...they make it pretty obvious as their most distinguishing male feature is very easy to see if not covered by foliage.

Thanks Tam...we stalk by floating down the river and hopefully bumping into these big boys.

Thanks Birdie...this is one mean looking cat...to have survived and been successful despite the loss of an eye is a real tribute.

I know how difficult these are to find. You make the most of that opportunity with these wonderful photographs. It is a treat to see them. I love the fact that there is nothing static about these shots, they convey the nature and intent of the animal, and in so doing accomplish the highest goals of wildlife photography, which are to allow the viewer to feel a part of the moment and to gain an insight into more than just the visual.

Thanks so much and I appreciate the insight into the process of making photos that are not "static"....as you know from your underwater photography, when you understand the subject's behavior it is much easier to predict the right moment to take the photo.
