some comments indicate that this body has a small market

no doubt true, but it allows Nikon to proclaim another "world's first" and likely cost little in development time

Yes, probably relatively little changes to make this on from the existing 810, but I don't think its the worlds first unless you refer only to full frame because wasn't the Canon 20Da and then 60Da basically the same sort of implementation of a DSLR years ago?

Fred I think it's just the fact that it is the world's first full frame astrophotography camera since canon has had the crop sensor in the past. I am thinking that's what they might be referring to.

All this talk about Astrophotography... Nothing about the"D750 film kit with 3 prime lenses."

Yeah, that would be more interesting to me, if I hadn't already bought those exact same three lenses. Doh! Has anyone done the math, what is the savings with the package, if any?

Dunno, but that is Nikon's claim - maybe I missed a weasel word they used?

A quote from Nikon:
"The D810A is designed exclusively for astrophotography"

So one can't use it for every day use. In that sense, it is expensive! just for astro nuts.

According to Popular Photography: "The entire filmmaking bundle will ring in at $4,000, and is already available for preorder. Doing some rough math, that actually seems like a tangible savings in the $600-$700 range if you were to go out and buy everything separately.

The kit will include a Nikon D750 body, an AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ED Lens, an AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G Lens, an AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G Lens, two extra EN-EL15 Lithium-Ion batteries, an 18” HDMI Cable, a Ninja 2 Video Recorder, and 58mm and 67mm Variable Neutral Density Filters."

Interesting strategy -

Canon has been the preferred tool for astrophotography to date by most astronomy photographers - their noise at longer exposures has been better related to heat that is generated by long exposures. They have also delivered a stock adjusted 60da that was speicific to astrophotography.

The question will be - does the noise of the d800a do better than a modified 5diii at long exposures.

Its surprising that they are chasing this market. Its small compared to just general

The d800 a will be able to be used in daytime with a red filter but its expensive to have a $4000 camera that you can only use at night.
