p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · "Aging" problems in cameras?

I could swear that my cameras (still d700 an D3 with about 150.000 actuations, 3 or 4 years old) and/or my lenses are suffering some kind of aging process.
It seems that i cannot rely on the autofocus speed or precision as i did before, not being a case of discalibration, because they work well, its just that they are doing things slower, at least thats my impression.
I mean, the keeping rate due to misfocus or watherver seems to be getting worse. I dont know if i have changed my way of shooting or maybe the af assists on newer flashes or wathever are not getting well along older bodies, anyone experiencing that kind of thing?

Have you ever sent them in for service or a cleaning? Just like your body, you need to treat your gear good and service it from time to time

Along the lines of what Nick wrote-

-Sometimes dust can gather in the AF slot near the sensor. Blow it out.
-Clean the contacts on the lenses and lens mount.

And then enjoy life while all your friends are worrying about the latest problems with the latest technology.

I bought a camera once where the owner was complaining of "inconsistent AF". It turned out to be dust bunnies on the AF slot.

Not sure where it might be on Canon bodies. But on Nikon bodies, it's a 3/4 inch (I think- not bored enough to measure) slot below the sensor.

BTW, outstanding website. Plenty of great images there that demonstrate your expertise, and which would motivate even the lowest-budget bride to spend more.

Go for mirror lock up and you can see it on the 'floor' of the mirror box behind where the mirror is.

In my nikons it is a little tricky to clea with mirror up option, as it lowers the module into a slot that way. I found it easier to clean by holding the mirror up with my finger and then cleaning the module with a soft eyeglasses cloth. Lets see how it goes now.
