p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · incorrect warranty card for AFS300 f4 PF ED VR

I just received (in the USA) my Nikon AFS 300 f4 PF ED VR lens,
shipped by B&H Feb 3, arrived Feb 4. The warranty card
(as well as the Nikon box) states the serial number is 201057.
However, the lens itself says it is number 201077.

Somebody out there must have "my" warranty card and I have theirs,
so maybe we can swap cards to avoid returning both lenses?
Others who received this lens model may want to check if
their warranty cards match their lenses...

Check with B&H, they'll solve it.

Thanks for the notice.

Mine is S/N 201214, all three numbers match.

Looks like somebody had a couple out to play with and didn't get the correct items back in the correct boxes.

Check your B&H receipt, that is the most importance number and must match the lens number in order to get warranty service.

Good luck.

I know that B&H receipts *usually* have the serial number,
but this time my receipt has no number!

Since it's USA lens and it fails within 4 years and 6 months, Nikon will know it's not 5 years old and will repair it.

this happened to me with one of my lenses and i freaked. i called nikon and yelled at the lady, but she told me to calm down and give her the s/n# on the lens. "uh huh, yup thats a USA lens, you will receive 5-years to the date of purchase warranty." she also told me that unmatched warranty cards happen all the time and she jokingly said the warehouse must be having way too many parties

like mentioned earlier, all they need is a receipt and that is all.

Edit: the lens was sent in to nikon just with the receipt. Absolutely no warranty card was needed. No charges billed to me.

To obtain free warranty service, you need to send in zeroxed copies of purchase receipt and warranty paperwork that has matching serial number. And thus is clearly spelled on Nikon website when you create packing slip.

I'd also contact B.H. It's better to resolve the discrepancy now than deal with a potential warranty issue years later.

I had a mismatch between lens and B&H receipt. I caught it a couple years after the fact when the lens needed warranty service. I go an email with the corrected lens S/N. They said it was a typo by whoever did the bill. Said it's not too unusual.

In my experience with Nikon support, a copy of the invoice and a USA lens is all that is needed to obtain warranty service. As long as the purchase date is < 5 years, Nikon will work on the lens under warranty.

Warranty paperwork is important because one can extremely easily falsify a purchase invoice in digital age - such as changing a pdf file contents - but he would have much hard time faking the warranty paperwork. Secondly, I learned recently that Nikon can sell international lenses with USA warranty paperwork work, in order words, a lens with non-USA serial number that has a USA warranty paperwork can be a reality. I bought a new USA version 85/1.8G from a local Best Buy that just sold me such a lens. When I sent it in for focus adjustment, I forgot to include the copy of its warranty paperwork. As a result, Nikon asked me to submit the missing copy before they would work on the lens.

I've sent nikon a body and lens on two different occasions. The body was a refurb d800 purchased from Roberts. Proof of purchase is all they Asked. If the op is paranoid just return the lens Bd get a new one.

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.
I did contact B&H and they sent me a revised receipt with the correct serial number.
I think I'll just go with this, and hopefully I'll be fine...

I am sorry I did not see this earlier and very glad to know it's been resolved. I apologize for the initial inconvenience.
