I agree with most of what you said there but you have to realise that some of us vocal users with issues do actually know what they are doing. Testing conditions are critical for AF testing and there are a lot of people who have no idea what they are doing when it comes to long lenses.
I like to think that I know what I am doing. I've been shooting at 700mm f5.6 on crop for a long time. I have also been shooting 1000mm f8 on FF for a long time (all with the 500II and 500I and V3 extenders). I have my usual habits such as minimum shutter speeds on crop and FF. I find FF to be more forgiving, even with the slower apertures.
My typical "minimum shutter speed" for static subject on a cropper is 1/3200 of a second. With my 7D2, shooting at such a speed yielded me very bad results on static subjects. Also I usually shoot handheld. I've been shooting handheld with the 500 for a long time (im in decent shape). With this in mind, I starting shooting at double my typical minimum shutter speed (1/6400) and I'm still getting terrible results with the birds or whatever filling 3/4 of the frame. The problem is that it looks perfectly focused in my viewfinder, but the images are out of focus or completely missed (blurry) on the image sensor. It almost looks like the image sensor and PDAF sensors are misaligned somehow.
To further test my "problem" I set up my AFMA jig that I've been adjusting my lenses for years. My 7D2 yielded vastly different AFMA values every time. I'm talking from +20 to -20 and everything in between. The same lens and TC combination on a 5D3 or 7D yield ZERO MFA values. They are perfect on other cameras.
I send the camera to Canon Canada. They just got back to me saying there was no fault found. I highly doubt that and I had to send off a nasty email to them just so they would look at it again. I sent a specific fault description saying that the camera doesn't like long lenses. What did they check it with a 24-70 lens. Ridiculous.
Im not one to rant usually, but you can't just paint everyone with the same brush. Yes, there are a lot of users that have absolutely too much money and no skill. I agree with that, but some of us know what we are doing.

I suggest contacting this person at Canon Canada>> Andrew Seepa - 905-795-2111 Ext 3610
I had a long conversation with him regarding my disappointment in how they handled my situation. he seemed to get it, although he claims he has never had any other complaints on the 7D Mark ii. Unfortunately, i had given up on this body and let it go, so it was too late for me. I do believe he can help and will do what he can to make sure you get the proper service you deserve. There are definitely some bad copies out there and many good ones. The company needs to stand behind their product and at the same time, make sure their customers stay return customers.
