Hey everyone. I'm trying to get some feedback from those that may have used both gimbal heads. I want to know why you chose one over the other. So, if you don't mind I'd like to hear from you. Let it fly. Tell all.

Thanks...Al

About a year ago, I bought both he Wimberly II and the Jobu BWG-HD3 Heavy-Duty MK III to compare. I didn't keep any notes, but I recall the Wimberly was noticeably smoother and balanced better. I was actually rooting for the Jobu because I really liked one of their smaller gimbals. In any case, I have the Wimberly II now on a nice Gitzo tripod and use them with the Canon 500mm lens.

When I bought my Wimberly II it was the only game in town. I still think it's the best design and manufacture out there. Not necessarily the lightest.

Nothing really. They were very similar. However, in direct comparisons, the Wimberly was simply smoother and balanced better. If I had never compared it to the Wimberly, I am sure I would have been happy with the Jobu. Since they were similarly priced, it was an easy choice to buy the Wimberly.

Do the Wimberlys have ball bearings in the tilt and panning bases?

no, they have a nylon sleeve bearing and on the knob a roller bearing of the tilt mechanism. on the pan mechanism i believe it is a sleeve/roller bearing.
