Yes, over a thousand. They can be found in good numbers in the south starting in late winter/early spring. I've already seen a few so far this year, despite it being only January! This weekend I expect to find a few milk snakes on the south-central Texas coast.
When it's opportune, I prefer to leave the snake in situ, unposed and natural. Shots number 4, 6, 8 and 11 are not posed, the rest of them are.
It's often very difficult to get good in situ photos of snakes, as many of them flee when spotted, or you find them under cover and it doesn't make for a very interesting photo.
Here's a shot of a pair of speckled kings under a board, one of which I posed and photographed (#2). The original setting doesn't make a very interesting photograph:
