p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · 7D Mark II, viewfinder in cold weather

Hi Guys

I took my 7D mark II at -2 degrees the other day, and I soon noticed some info in the view finder getting dimmed. The focus points were not as bright as the other information in the viewfinder. It kind of lagged a bit.

Is the cold temp. has this kind of effect on the viewfinder?

Thanks guys.

The viewfinder overlays are LCD and cold can affect LCD transition times. If the LCD is fine inside then the cold is a likely culprit. The outer viewfinder display is LED and should not be affected by cold.

Thanks Norman

You are probably right, since the outer viewfinder is not affected at all. It seems that only what goes on/off are affected ex: focus points, and the AF light confirming focus), which I believe are LCD.

Thanks

Was that -2C or -2F? I wouldn't expect -2C to affect the viewfinder. My 7D (not 7DII) is fine at those temps, and I think the viewfinders are the same.
