"Old Friends, across eons"

This is the wider view of my previous post, taken a few minutes later.
This Elm tree lives in the shadow of its much older friend, Half Dome.

This was exposed on Ektar color neg film, which I'm still finishing up the color version.
Since Ektar has good DR, it was a good candidate to see how it looked in B&W
Taken with my much sharper 150mm

Hey Dan,

Loving Half Dome of course!

Add some more contrast to this one and it would be really nice.

OK Jim, here ya go.
I was reluctant to push the contrast as I was getting blocked shadows.
But here's a part measure.

Thanks

Hey Dan,

I like the edit better than the original. When it comes to blocked shadows, using a layer mask to do localized contrast adjustments is the key. You could use Color Range and select the black areas to do a selection from. Then create your layer mask from that with the purpose of it to protect those already dark areas. Then adjust on the top layer and add the increased contrast that way.

But this is looking pretty good here. I would only do one last thing. Select the sky alone, and bump up the contrast (midtones) in it. You have the makings of a nice moody sky, I would emphasize that some more.

Ok Jim,
Here's the sky. there wasn't much to play with but I did get some contrast out of it.
Any more & it looks cooked.

Thanks
Dan
