p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Crazy Lens Test

A couple of months ago, I got my Fuji XT-1 and have been pleased with the results using my three Fuji lenses. But on a whim, I bought a Metabones adapter, with the hope of being able to try my old Minolta RF Rokkor-X 500mm mirror lens on this crop-sensor body, effectively giving it a 750mm perspective. It's a fixed f/8 lens. I finally took it out for a brief spin in Laguna Beach, looking westward this morning. Two captures are presented. The first, a boat estimated at around 3000 yards offshore, with Catalina Island 33 miles in the distance. The second, a hummingbird at the absolute minimum focusing distance, around 20 feet. Both photos have insane amounts of clarity and contrast added in Lightroom, with a moderately large amount of sharpening (also in Lightroom). Great photos? Nah. Interesting experiment? I think so.

interesting, can we see 100% crops? i'm curious how the lens holds up to the higher pixel density on crop cameras. i've been pleasantly surprised by how well it performs on FF.

here's a few with the same lens on my a7:

light was low with the bird shots so i was using slower shutter speeds than i should, they still came out decently though...

Not sure how to post 100% crop. File's pretty big.

crop them until they're not big anymore (800x600 should make them plenty small), or post them on a free site like flickr and just post the link.

Thanks. Based on that, the first shot, with the boat and Catalina, are pretty much 100%; just minor horizon straightening. The 100% crop of the hummingbird shot is below. The original has some very OOF hand railing below.

i think you misunderstand what i mean by 100% crop. i mean 1 pixel on the screen represents 1 pixel from the camera sensor (1:1 magnification). at 100% percent your full image size should be 4912 x 3264, then you can crop (or cut out) just a small section of that image (as i did in my post choosing 800 x 600 sized cut outs) to show what that small section of the image looks like at full magnification.
