My one complaint about the 7DMKII is the ~1/2 second wakeup delay when coming back from sleep mode, which is a strange way to design an action/wildlife camera. Is there any way to stop the camera from going to sleep besides periodically half pressing the shutter button?

The 5D3 is the same. I try and stay aware of what's happening - should be addressed by Canon really.

There is a sleep setting, which can be set to "Never". (Page 69)

Amen, it is a pita. Not sure if disable or 8 minute delay will work best for me. I'll give both a try.

1/2 a second delay? I'm betting about 100% of Sony A7/A6000 users would kill to have that kind of responsiveness!

(yes yes I do realize 1/2s can be too slow when trying to catch split-second action)

Thanks! I thought I tried it and it did not work, but I just checked again and it worked.

Just remember to turn it off at night and have some spare batteries on you

I hear you. I added it to my menu so I can change it easily.

Ahh, gotta love the 7D2s extra "my menu" so that we can load all our stuff.
