Nice image and brings back wonderful memories. Love the B&W treatment and the storm clouds rolling over the ridge.
There are a number of Ski lifts in the image. On the left side of the image on the sunlit plateau is the cog railway that brings skiers up to the Gornegrat. Towards the center right, in the valley and extending toward the upper left is the cable car / tram, each tram car holds 100 pers. From that tram you also have access to skiing over the ridge and into Italy. Over about a third from the right and following the ridge line of the Matterhorn is a Gondola from town ending in the Schwarzsee ski area.
When we lived in Switzerland at least 3 times each year our teacher would decide to hold class up on the mountainside at one of the mountain lakes with views of the Matterhorn. We would get up early and catch the train to Zermatt, hike up to one of the mountain lakes, hold class, usually reading Shakespeare, have lunch and later hike back down and catch the train back to Lausanne. At that time it was 4 Swiss francs to $1usd, believe now it's about 1 swiss franc to $1usd. Would love to go back and visit.
