I've been noticing these interesting snow and crevice patterns in the mountains to the southwest of Durango.
Critiques are most welcome.

They are very interesting.

I'm wondering if there is an opportunity to do something more abstract by taking a portion of the crevices and patterns with no sky and no trees. Maybe using a telephoto to capture a section of the mountainside?

Thanks volyrat. Here are a few crops to give a more abstract feel.

Hey Steve,

Did you use a polarizer when shooting? I like the composition, and the tighter crops are pretty cool too, but the processing on these seems a little off. Pulling down on the midtones I think would help, and I would process the sky separate from the land in #1. I think with just a little more pop given to #1 in the processing that shot would really stand out.

I'm with Jim, they are fascinating images that could benefit from a wee bit more contrast. The texture created by the snow in the shadow areas is really neat!

Thanks Jim and Jo,

Yes, I did use a polarizer. I post another edit of the first (with sky) per your suggestions.
Cheers, and thanks for the feedback - much appreciated!
Steve

That's a beautiful sight. With a longer lens you could have gotten your crops as complete images.

Thanks Rajan,
I had only my 70-200 with me yesterday - perhaps I'll go out again this morning with the 400mm for another try.
cheers, Steve

Excellent shot. Makes me want to go to Durango in the winter instead of the summer, like I usually do...
