p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Backup help

I am wanting a simple external backup and storage. I don't really know much about raid etc and would like some advice. I basically just wanting to mirror 2 or 3 hard drives with reasonable speed. I have looked at Drobo and Synology but thy are way out of my price range. Something like Lenovo IX2-200D would be in my price range. Any thoughts and suggestions?

My significant other (Deborah) uses this:

http://www.amazon.com/Sans-Digital-TowerRAID-Multiplier-Retail/dp/B006VK6EIU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1420880639&sr=8-2&keywords=sans+digital+4+bay

after one year it is still working great...she just uses this Sans Digital external 4-bay to do mirror images of her internal hard drives (photos), and also the operating system/data of the primary drive. All works fine - so no need to spend $500 plus for a back-up solution.

How much data are you needing to back up?

If you are talking about a few TB or less, then buy:
- one of these (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=780) at around double the size of the data you have
- one of these (http://www.icydock.com/goods.php?id=152) or similar
- one of these (http://www.ebay.com/bhp/hdd-storage-box)

And use this (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15155) or something similar to sync the data.

Store the drive in the plastic box in your office between syncs.

Yea that is what I am looking for something like that. Sans digital doesn't seem to available in New Zealand so I will look at other options.
I have been looking at RAID and gather RAID1 is what I want. Is that correct.
