There is nothing more invigorating than standing on the river bank at - 25 waiting to see if any color will come to the sky.

From Sunday - my nephew came along and had to walk back to the car to warm up. I guess us old guys are tough. (or stupid).

Here are my best shots from under the bridge at Castle Junction.

1-3 of 3

1 of 3 - Looking East

2 of 3 - Looking West - Early

3 of 3 Looking West Later

Best Castle Mountain photos I have seen so far. Fantastic!
Young sprout needs to be protected more carefully from the cold, you know.
Toe warmer, hand warmer, layers, face mask, layered gloves, hats, ski pants, etc, etc.
Anyway, thanks for the sensational images.

Great set. I like 3 then 2 best.

That is cold. I would probably have been back and forth between the car!

Quick question - are the osprey still there this time of year or do they fly south somewhere?

Don

Hey Scott,

That's some pretty cold weather to be standing around in!

#1 is my favorite, that has a really cool look to it.

Kee Woo Rhee: I bought some of that new high tech equipment (Goretex) but it only works well when you are moving. Glad you like the castle mountain pictures. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

philber:Glad you like 1. Sundogs are great to photograph. Thansk for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

1ajs: Woops I forgot that my nephew might read what I posted. My apologies for calling a Manitoba nephew soft. Yes the ts is a critical element to get a good picture. It was a great morning. Thanks. Scott

dwa652:. The osrey still nest every year on the bridge but they are long gone. Usually then have moved on by early October. Probably with his feet up in sunny texas. Osprey being smarter than me. Glad you like 3. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Glad you like the sun dog combined with sun flare. It seems to happen regularly at this time of year. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Nice work! I really like #1: the sun dog and flare are great, and the overall color, exposure, and steam rising below the sun color really add to the feel of icy winter chill. Well done!

Blimey that looks cold. Don't blame your nephew. Can't really comprehend that sort of temperature here in Queensland, Australia.

Great shots. The first is my pick.

nrferguson: Glad you like 3. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

gavin_emmons: I was trying to capture the cold so I am glad you like the sundog/flare/bow. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

dswiger: Glad you like 1. There are always interesting "fire" shots in the cold winter, near water. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

cams884: I grew up in a spot where I played outside at -53F and went winter camping at -48F and visited my trap line at -45 every week, so this is only moderately cold. But I am getting soft. Its all about the clothes (and using my canon 5diii instead of my a7r that does not like cold). Glad you like 1. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

No - I was dressed better. Long underwear, pants, over pants --- long underwear, shirt, nano puff, goretex, down -- the only thing that was really cold were my fingers to operate the camera. Its about the clothes.

Warming in the car, if underdressed, is appropriate.
