p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · 5D3 squeal/squeak at low temperatures

I was out shooting with my 5D3 (ungripped) today for a few hours in zero degree (F) clear and dry weather. About an hour in, I noticed a slight squeal/squeak---hard to describe-- toward the end of each shutter action. It went away once the camera came back to room temperature. Any ideas? This is the first I've encountered this issue. All of the images taken in the last hr of shooting came out fine. I figure its something with either the shutter or mirror assembly. The issue persisted when I tried a shot without a lens attached.

It got down to the lower 70s today in Honolulu but none of my cameras squeaked. However, I think one of my models did...

Canon cameras some years back (A / AE series) starting squeaking because of old oil, it could be repaired relative easily: Canon shutter squeak repair. Never heard / read such from Nikon or other competitors.

But I donīt think this repair instruction would help you for your camera.

I've shot many times in temperatures as low as -28C (about -18f) with 5d3 and no issues. The only issues I had when I was shooting at +45C(about 115f). At that temp all cameras stop working and lenses stop focusing.

Yeah, it actually sounds slightly similar to my dad's old AE-1, which has the old oil problem.
