OK so after I posted a Wacom alternatives thread a few days ago (the consensus was buy a wacom ) Ive ordered a Small Pen and Touch wacom .

Now I know this is a wired device (which is how I will begin to use it) but I also see that can be made wireless buy buying the wacom wireless kit .

My question is can my iMac (2012) and possibly my Surface Pro (v1) connect to the wireless kit WITHOUT the receiver being plugged into a usb port ? i.e. like my mouse and keyboard etc .

I can see the attraction of being wireless but if I'm still taking up a port on my mac (even worse on my surface as it only has a single USB) then I think I can pass on the wireless kit

Thanks in advance

No, you need to use the mini-dongle in a USB port. It will not work with Bluetooth or WiFi.

If you need more USB connections for your iMac or Surface, a USB hub might work for you. It's another piece of equipment to lug around but they make them pretty small for portable use. There might be a possibility that the mini-dongle would not work on a hub but I would say there is a high probability that it would work.
