p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Mastin Labs Ilford B&W Presets - Reviews?

So I signed up for the "Beta" Ilford B&W Presets from Mastin Labs: https://mastinlabs.com/products/mastin-labs-ilford-bw-pack/
They sent me a 40% off invitation. I was wondering- has anyone used any of the Mastin Labs presets and what they thought of them? I kind of want to get this set just to try it out but if it's janky I don't want to waste money.
I currently use TRA's Replichrome but rarely use their B&W presets.

(in b4 'flim presets are for hipsters and noobs')

I'm not sure if I want to buy it or split it with someone else. It's $71, but to be honest that's not too much if you love the stuff. Is it just the presets (think they list about 15-20) they list, or a lot more that are unlisted as well?

In my opinion, nothing touches Nik Silver Efex Pro when it comes to digital black and white conversions.

Yes, Silver Efex is nice. I shoot Ilford almost exclusively for b&w and I find the Replichrome and VSCO presets to be good enough. No one is going to be like "you should've use used Ilford Delta 3200 -- on this instead of ilford delta 3200 -."

Nik is really nice but way too slow to implement on many images for weddings IMO.

My main irritation with most of these presets is that my well processed RAW loses the blacks or clips the highlights. The blacks look like they have gone in both the PanF and Delta 3200 here but otherwise they look pretty realistic imo. Can you turn the grain off?

low res web images can closely match real film shots but when printed its not even close to the same thing.
The mastin stuff is great as is the vsco and replichrome stuff. IMO if you are shooting digital and are trying to match to some film then you are wasting time and energy. why not just shoot film or just leave digital digital and not try to simplify it down to what BW film looks like?
Anyway Diane's examples look really nice but if she shot the same scene with film it would be way different.
