I have been contemplating getting some longer glass for birding and wildlife so a friend and I rented an 800 5.6L and headed to Lake Coeur d'alene to give it a try. The Eagles are in but not in the numbers they usually are for this time of year. The day started grey and quite and ended up sunny, blue sky and windy.
The 800 was more difficult to use than I expected, took me a while to get the hang of tracking with it, kept losing the bird in the dive. I did hand hold it a couple of times but it would be a very long day if I had to do it very much.
I think we will rent a couple more lenses this winter before any decision is made on a new lens or body. Anyway, a couple of images from the trip, hope you enjoy them. Comments and Critiques appreciated.
