p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · The 800s had a baby

Here's the 800 family: ma, pa and the junior.

This picture should convey the sense of a major ergonomic advantage that the 400 DO mkII offers. However, there is no such thing as a free lunch: the Junior is f/8, while ma and pa are f/5.6. Moreover, while I have some feel as to how the Junior performs, I'd need a fair bit more of operating experience with that combo before I could rate it properly vis a vis its "parents". However, it all looks rather promising so far.

I would have done it if I had another 2xTC. However, the contrast in size wrt 800L and 600+1.4xTC is telling enough, one doesn't even have to start lifting the combos to have a 'feel" for the differences in weight as well as awkwardness of handling.

Sharp eye you've got Jason. I use Schneider's 120mm slip on dust caps on 400DO II and a couple of other lenses. B&H used to carry them, not expensive and they are nice. One problem: they do not allow reverse hood mounting. Therefore, when I go out, Don Zeck's lids are used.

Good looking family! I didn't realize the new Jr. was that attractive! On a side note, you take really good care of your gear! That 800L looks mint, not even a mark in the grove at the end of the barrel! Do you use Lenscoats and take them off for pics?

No Lenscoat.........my gear is not used much, therefore it's all in a pretty good condition.

The merchandise in that photo is worth more than my entire house in the swamp.

Someone needs to get their tubes tied or something snipped. Me being a man, I say the tubes tied. Those babies get expensive; after care, checkups etc.

Good point.

However, in this case my wife went after the midwife, i.e., me, with very sharp Solingen scissors, and it is only owing to double layered "depends" that I have avoided being mutilated.
