Yup, noticed it immediately.

I can still see it.

Might be a monitor difference though. I'm using a MacBook Pro.

I just checked my post here on my old iPad, and yes, the photo has more contrast on this display - I did not see it at all on my calibrated LED monitor screen. In my opinion it is not a biggie at all - I should also say that I used a 3 stop ND filter here (which shouldn't affect image quality at all).

I think you have shown just how useable this lens is on the A7 series cameras. It isn't surprising to me that it shows a bit of colour cast on the A7r, and maybe even the A7 and A7 II. It probably won't show any on the A7S. I don't think hardly anyone is saying that is a big deal. It is easily handled in post-processing and to be honest I get the same issue at times with my ZE 21 f/2.8 on a 5D MKII--usually more cyan than magenta, however. See the image below. So with ultra wide angle lenses I think this is just part of shooting digital. If it bugs you correct it in post. If it doesn't leave it. Personally, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.

I think the OP was more interested in the OM Zuiko 21mm f/3.5 and the Voigtländer 20 mm f/3.5 Color-Skopar, rather than this lens.

Ya, I'm not going to stick a fat zeiss lens on this camera if I end up with it. For me it would defeat the purpose of buying the a7 in the first place.

I wasn't posting the picture from the ZE 21 f/2.8 to suggest it as an option, but to point to the fact that colour shift with wide angle lenses can happen on digital even with big lenses and DSLRs. I was trying to put the colour shift of the Voigtlander 21 f/1.8 into context.

Here is a comparison in size between the FD20/2.8 SSC and the Pentax FA20/2.8

Pentax FA20/2.8 and Canon FD20/2.8 by jenkwang, on Flickr

The Pentax is smaller, even after considering the adapter.
Smaller filter size too.

Here is a sample that I think is the best I tried to get off the lens given the time I had to try and think about it.
Focused using the off centre and f11 to get round the field curvature.

As mentioned in the previous post, its punchier in o/p vs the FD and the filed curvature becomes an advantage in some cases as it gives a better dimensional feel to the focus/OOF falloff in some situations (esp. close up and at wider apertures) .
But the last 1/10 of the frame is its weakness.

Moustache distortion typical of most older 20mm (as present in the Canon, Sony, Nikon too)

FA20 f11 left side focus by jenkwang, on Flickr
There is a full sized sample on my flickr for those who want to refer.

Sorry, but I usually don't keep RAW unless its important family portraits/events or photo tours.

How is the Pentax FA for focussing manually?

Its 'Ok', but typical of FA lenses, with that less damped, 'loosey' feel, though a bit better than some (the FA135/2.8 comes to mind as the most 'loosey' I've handled)
IMO, there is enough focus throw though, so its not as bad as some AF lenses which sacrifice a lot of the throw for faster AF.

The A20/2.8 would be better for MF, though its really hard to find.
Even for this FA, I had thought I could walk into a 2nd hand store in Tokyo and it would be available, but it was not so.

Agreed. They all do it to a greater or lesser extent.

You'll love the A7, whatever version you get.

It's only a small amount smaller, I'd sacrifice that for a decent focus ring. How is the SMC M version of the lens? I'd assume it's as bad as the 24mm f2.8. I haven't seen the raw but it's at last as sharp as the FD, maybe more. Which also falls off right at the edge even at f11.

Isn't the M series a 20 f/4 rather than a f/2.8? The one that interests me in the original K mount 20 f/4. It looks like it might be a solid performer and although not as small as the M series (as is typical), it looks like it may perform a lot better. Any one have any experience?

Steve, the site I linked earlier compares certain characteristics of the M, K and A versions.

I've asked on here before for user comments, without any success. I think the FA above is the first Pentax 20mm I've seen on here.

Problem is that site is testing with film, rather a far cry from a 36 megapixel sensor which is rather sensitive to wides.

Wow. Most things with PENTAX-A on them are basically worth having, IMHO.

Wow. The size difference between those lenses is massive. I know some are zooms but still...
