Thoughts & comments appreciated. Culling through some old stuff.

Thanks,

Bob

Overall the second, but I am not fond of the grain in either. In terms of tone, someplace between the two.

The mouth is sort of unflattering to such a beautiful child.

+1 @ tweener.

You might take a look at using a different channel.

The eyes have it! I like it. Good three point composition.

Dark circles under the eyes. I wouldn't necessarily delete it, but I think you can definitely do better. FWIW

Nice re-work Karen. Pretty major crop to get to this point.

The crispies along the lower eyelash troubled me in all versions - any thoughts other than go on a pixel hunt?

Agreed, but her lip/mouth is the reality of the moment. I am more curious re how the two renditions are received - apparently #1 is a non-starter for this audience. Personally, I prefer it to #2. Tomorrow, that may change

Oh yes, best tossed for a fresh start. Thanks for your comments.

+1 @ Karen ... kind of aggressive, but the message is certainly delivered and received.

When someone says they like what I did but they'd have used less, I know I've done my job.

Exaggerate to illustrate and, if the poster likes the direction, he or she applies the amount of change to match their vision. If I change just enough, a subtle change might not be noticed. If noticed, well, it might more likely be taken as "do it my way". If someone likes the direction but *chooses* a different variation, then they artistically make it their own and have the satisfaction of doing it their way.

Of course, the downside of habitual exaggeration is a tendency to be heavy handed on my own work out of habit....

I agree. I think this is an unflattering portrait of a cute little girl
It read the three points as Karen said, but they are all dark, contrasty and convey an emphasis which I find unappealing
Very much in contrast to most of your portraits

OK, relegated to the trash bin...and no further portraits during my fixation with contrast and street stuff. Oil and water.

I agree that in terms of composition the image is good. I just find the child's facial expression odd and as said before, unflattering. I kind of like the grain in the first one though.

Sounds like I have the equivalent of an image designed by a committee - a little bit for everyone.

I think you and I are in the minority on #1
