p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · The Ghostlight

This pic I took in 2010 while on vacation with my family in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. This was taken with my Canon XS and its kit lens using a cheap tripod. The light source was a big lamp that was directly behind the little tree giving a cool effect. I stumbled with the pic today and reworked it a bit with Lightroom 5 and also did a BW version.

Interesting. Did you intend the noise?

PM - cool photo!

I prefer the mono version - the color version seems like there is a sun setting in front of the forest (which could be a neat surreal interpretation).

+1 @ Karen and the noise - it doesn't detract much, but a smoother image overall might enhance the mood more.

Cheers,

Jeff

Nope! Noise was a byproduct of the equipment (Canon XS) and a too high ISO most probably. At that time my PP skills were not that good so that is a factor also.

I'd be curious to see how they would look if you ran some noise reduction against them.

Here, used Lightroom again, what you think?

I like it. I wonder what it would look like if you toned down the yellow pieces on either side of the middle-yellow-piece...
FWIW.

Examined the darker areas of the upper right, they still could benefit from more aggressive noise reduction:

PM, at this point I'm just looking for nits.

The most prominent is the section in yellow - you'll probably want to smooth or clone this part out, along with the less-apparent green section.

Might want to consider burning the blue part to minimize potential distractions.

The image might need a slight rotation clockwise, which I found to be most apparent around the pink section.

Hope this helps!

Jeff

Beavens I get what you say about the pink and blue sections but not about the green and yellow. You want me to clone out the "rays" of yellow light or the whole transtion of yellow to orange to deep red...?

BTW you can try your hand at PP this pic!

The transition doesn't seem as natural compared to earlier versions.
