p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Help with Metabones EF-NEX Mk iv auto-magnify/MF assist

Hi All
Just picked up a Metabones EF-NEX mark iv for my canon lenses and A7r.

I have mounted the lens while pressing the button to engage 'advanced mode' and the lens aperture stops down as i click the aperture.

I have the camera set to manual focus and the switch on the lens set to manual focus.

When I focus the lens for the first time after mounting it, the magnified manual focus view comes up on the camera. If i then press the shutter button the manual focus magnified view disappears and it doesn't do it again when i next focus the lens.

Am I missing something here?

BTW this is my first metabones, bought used on ebay.

What are the holes for either side of the USB port?

ok, quick update

Zeiss ZE 100/2 does not invoke the magnified focus view at all, seems like the Zeiss lenses maybe dont send distance info to the camera.

Canon 35/2IS and 17TSE both invoke the magnified view when focusing for the first time after mounting the lens but then dont do it when focussing again after pressing the shutter button.

Both invoke the magnified view again after a power off but only before pressing the shutter then not again.

I do however like having the aperture set directly when changing the aperture on camera, should make critical focusing much better.

Why don't you just press C1 (or whatever button you have customized for magnification?)

could do, but the auto magnify is a feature of the metabones advanced mode and having it automatically pop up when focusing is neat.

Haven't messed with any customiseable buttons yet, so may have to try that

But not all lenses are supported or the feature doesn't work properly, I wouldn't rely on it.

I've been using the C1 button since day one, it's become second nature. now I miss it when I shoot with my DSLR

Thanks for this thread. It must be that the ZE lenses don't supply focus distance information to the camera, which unfortunately not only means you can't get auto-magnify, but it also means there will only be 3-axis stabilization on the A7 II. On the plus side the Canon lenses with auto-magnify should have 5-axis stabilization on the A7 II.
