Earlier this year I spent a bit of time exploring The Great Swamp. Here are a few images of some of the locals but I actually found the flora a more interesting photo op.
What do you think?

Eric

1 Young Redtail (or red shouldered as Herb suggested)

2 Tree roots...it does look like I climbed up a fair amount to take this image

3 Turkey trot

4 The root of all evil...now it is apparent that I didn't do any climbing...this was a huge tree that was a victim of Superstorm Sandy and was uprooted....the whole swamp was littered with trees just like this...a difference in perspective to be sure

Nice set Eric, but I'm going with the birds. I may be wrong, but I think the hawk is a juvenile red shouldered.

Thanks...and I wondered if it was a red shouldered myself.

I think it is because of the teardrop breast markings and small beak. RTH usually have banding across the mid section.

Very nice perspective shot of the root, Eric. The hawk is my favorite, very clean shot.

Fantastic shot of the hawk with such a beautiful background.
You sure could have fooled me with the root shot Nice perspective .
Great colors and detail on the turkey feathers.

Wonderful set.

Eric, you should climb more trees. Next time try and get a shot of the top of a bird's head at the same time.

Thanks...turkeys are really under rated as pretty birds.

Thanks Tam...I was pretty lucky with that young hawk...it let me shoot away for quite a while

Thanks Birdie...I have come to the realization that I have no control over backgrounds in almost all of my local shooting....I got lucky this time. Unfortunately much of the reserve is protected and walking off the path invites a $250 fine....not exactly worth the effort. I like the quilted/thatched look of the turkey's feathers and the tuft of feathers that protrudes as well

Tony, tree climbing is not my strong suit...never has been and never will be....I'm afraid of heights...even changing light bulbs makes me nervous

I do like the birds, both are really nice shots Eric!! I find it disturbing that people still carve their markings into a tree, I don't see that very often. Heck they even did it after the tree fell
