No one not even KEH fixes shutters in the 1DS mkII. I now have no full frame camera anymore.

Rich that is a bummer. That bad news reminds me of the need to use my 1DsMkII even more sparingly, only when it's really warrantied.

I suppose KEH do not have a spare shutter ? However, if you can get from them the shutter part number, I could do some recon work on this side of the border in search of a stray spare shutter, although that would be a very long shot.

Have you talked with TF Camera Repair folks ?

Those people have a very good reputation, Mark in particular. Even if the shutter part number is the only thing you'd get, that would enable us to look for it better.

The part number for the 1Ds2 shutter unit is CG2-1162-000 000. There are LOTS of surrounding parts that may be damaged (or lost) and need replacing while getting into, removing, installing or buttoning-up the shutter.

You can download the Parts Manual HERE.

If you or a *trusted* friend are contemplating doing a replacement, you may want to watch one guy's attempt in the following scary 3-part video.

" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Part 1

" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Part 2

" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Part 3

The video is titled, "Try to fix broken shutter in Canon EOS 1 D mark II N". Note the opening word "Try". Yikes! He actually took the shutter unit apart, which is NOT recommended. Just replace it.

If you're still willing after watching the vid, there are a couple of places listing the shutter units for sale on the Web. Seems to be in the $250-$300 range. Google is your friend here. Or there are a number of 1Ds2's for sale on the web, with hopefully a few shots left in them. Certainly a less nerve-racking solution unless you're a camera repairperson.

I love my 1ds2, but for me, when it goes, it's gone. It's paid for itself many times over. Time for something new.

Yeah,it's a problem because the diagnosis was the shutter. It was not more specific then that. I'll see what Mark says tomorrow. I certainly can't fix it.

Sweet! My situation is just the reverse of yours. My 1Ds2 is still running like a champ, but my 1D2 took a little swim in Tampa Bay a couple of years ago. Weatherproof, yes, but definitely NOT waterproof - especially salt water! Fortunately pretty much covered by insurance, but I still miss it.

Right on. There are new as well as used shutters available on eBay for MkII 1D cameras. The prices range from $60 to $160 typically, but I'd never buy a used one in order to save $50 or something, if I have an option to get a new shutter. However, I believe that talking to Mark should help you devise a further plan of action.

You might want to try Tempe Camera and Repair. They have been fixing cameras for 30 years. They are very reasonable and nice to deal with. Ask for Joe in camera repair.

You can tell Joe I referred you.

Best of luck,

If the other repair shops don't work out give 'Steve' at the 'Camera Clinic' a call. He's a former Canon repair tech here on the west coast and has repaired/refurbished bodies and lenses for me; very old ones.

1D Mk II isn't full frame. It's a 1.3 crop. In any event, hope you can get it fixed. Great camera still.
