I am searching for a true fish eye lens for D810. Want to make full circular images. Any advice / recommendation?

I tried the following Samyang with the hood removed however it is not giving a full circular image

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/886564-REG/Samyang_syhd8m_n_8mm_f_3_5_HD_Fisheye.html

Thanks

If you want the best... try this.

Nikon 8 f/2.8 AI-s Fisheye Lens

This lens has appeared a few times on the Manual Focus Nikon Glass thread and is currently used by a fellow in San Diego who took this shot with that lens. It is a challenging lens to use simply because it creates this full circle. You need to be very aware of how you frame a photo. Clearly, it is NOT a cheap lens. You can find copies not quite this fine on E-Bay so it is possible to do better price wise. For your camera you would want a lens marked as either AI or AI-s. Honestly, MF works just fine with a fisheye lens. Good luck sorting this all out.

You can also cheat and use a normal fisheye (even a DX one) and use your favorite editing tool to cut the appropriate part to achieve a similar result.
I have done this several times with the 10.5 DX fisheye.

See for instance here for an explanation on how I did it:

Tokina 11-16 2.8 (DX) might do it, see the 6 images at http://www.kenrockwell.com/tokina/11-16mm.htm

Whether 11mm is enough fisheye for you needs is another matter.

Why not buy a real circular fisheye?

Sigma makes one for FX. Not sure if there is a modern Nikon version.

The Sigma is relatively expensive for a lens you will not use very often. Only advantage of course, it is a real circular fisheye. A better investment could be the cheap Samyang fish eye, and use it the same way I use the 10.5mm.

Thanks all for the recommendations.

@Gugs. I like how you have used the mask to get the circular affect. although get not exactly what I was after but it brings me quite close 😃. Thanks

You might also consider the cheap Lensbaby circular fisheye (a 5.8mm DX lens). IQ is not excellent, but it is an interesting toy. I can post a few samples tomorrow evening if you are interested.

Where does it say that? Not on Samyang's website:

Somewhere it was posted when it was first rumored as a Rokinon.

They offer both cine and normal versions. Just saw it in an ad in a magazine the other day.

B&H has them up for preorder.

The new Sam-Rok 12mm is a FF fisheye. I had the Sigma 8mm for about 6 months back when I had Nikon D3 cameras. The quality seemed to match the 12MP D3 OK, might be a stretch on 24 or 36MP.

The new Samyang is a rectilinear fisheye, not usable on FX to get a circular picture. Only Sigma and Lensbaby seem to make more or less affordable circular fisheyes.

An example picture with the Lensbaby fisheye (a DX circular toy fisheye). IQ is average, resolution is acceptable when stopped down , but there are some aberrations and the reflector around the picture sometimes gives strange effects.

A little-known option is a Belarus / Peleng 8mm. Low-tech. ALL manual.... including closing down the aperture.

It's not that bad once you figure out how to operate it.
